London!

What a day to remember!

15 hours straight of zooming around London looking at the sights, taking photos at Buckingham Palace, climbing St Paul's Cathedral, poking around Portabello Market, shopping at Harrods, sitting in a typical pub for tea, walking through Convent Garden soaking up the atmosphere and finally finding MM World as a bonus surprise!

It was a marathon day but so much fun. As team leader I had to plan the itinerary, transport and organise the team. Quite a challenge in a city that I have never visited before! Thank goodness my sister in law came to visit and helped with navigating the London tube. For some reason 5 tube lines were under repair – what a nightmare if you’re a tourist!

The good news is we didn’t lose anyone and the bad news is we are all probably going to need to pay for excess baggage!!

Highlights of the day included:

1.       Posing outside of Buckingham Palace – it’s a beautiful building and it makes you patriotic towards the royal family.

2.       Horse Guards Parade – the livery of the horses is very ornate and the horses are so well groomed that they are almost fluffy! The guard’s uniforms are traditional and immaculate. Taking your photo with them is a must do in London.

3.       Climbing St Paul's Cathedral – I climbed to the Whispering Gallery and a lovely old man demonstrated the acoustics of a perfect circle. The Gallery has 12 doors and if someone stands at one door and whispers to you at the wall, you can move around to each door way and still hear them around the entire circle. It’s amazing!

4.       Iconic Big Ben is beautiful and the Houses of Parliament are immense – classic photo opportunity.

5.       Poking around Portabello Market, Notting Hill – a fabulous way to absorb local atmosphere – food, designers, souvenirs, vintage clothing, antiques, music and every nationality represented. Highly recommended.

6.       Shopping at Harrods – what can I say - iconic location, fabulous variety, crazy prices = budget blowout but happy girls with lots of hunter green bags with “Harrods” on the front.

7.       Finding a pub in Convent Garden serving homemade food. The pubs over here are so quaint with lovely food at good prices. The locals are so friendly and love a chat.

8.       Walking through West End on a mild night in London is amazing – people everywhere, cafes and restaurants open, lights and atmosphere.

9.       MM World – 5 levels of everything MM related. MMs in every colour you can think of and MM displays.” Kids” of all ages were going crazy in there – great fun with happy bouncing music.

A jammed packed day that will be remembered for a long time J
