Scotland!

After a VERY long day in the bus we arrived at the Scottish border and then made our way onto Edinburgh. We left Nottingham at 9am and pulled into our hotel in Edinburgh at 5.30pm. We had a few minor stops ie Border photos but pretty much it was a day in the bus.

Yorkshire Moors

Yorkshire village

Edinburgh is very pretty - lots of history here and the countryside changes from England to Scotland. We drove through the Yorkshire Moors National Park - lots of boggy marshes with black faced sheep and a few cattle. It then became hilly and smoother - as in the moors were thistley and rough at the edges and then the Scottish hills are smooth grassed and patch worked with hedges or walls.

Rainbow - a "welcome" at the border

I will include a few pics of the journey. Tomorrow we visit The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Science and Roslin Institute (creators of "Dolly" the cloned sheep & "Hope" the cloned pig). The Institute no longer does cloning studies but now applies that knowledge to GM (genetic modification) research. They look at altering genes to create species that are resistant to diseases that in turn usually cross to humans ie Avian flu. Interesting science although a wee bit freaky!

Abbey ruins

Amazing engineering - only a few hundred years old!
