We had a 3 hour trip ahead of us and Walthams were expecting us at 1.00pm but we didn't arrive until 3.30pm. Impressively Walthams went out of their way to welcome us and still give us a tour of the centre even though their visiting hours end at 3.00pm. It was very much appreciated as this facility is amazing and conducts the research that creates the foundation most of the known pet food brands that we feed our pets.
Most impressive was the "care" philosophy of this company. The pets seen here were beautiful, well groomed and happy! I have never seen a room being shared by up to 10 cats who were all so content - grooming each other, sleeping in groups or resting quietly. All were alert and bright with no signs of stress. It's an absolute credit to the company.
The Labradors and Schnauzers that live at the centre were lovely - great body condition scores, shiny glossy coats and happy, friendly dogs. Their kennels have been designed in such a way that they can see each other without being overstimulated, reducing noise and anxiety - very clever.
There was evidence of environmental enrichment everywhere and certainly made me feel that my critters are missing out!
So nice to know that the two main brands we sell at work are founded from this company - certainly gives you confidence in their product. Unfortunately no photos were allowed but they gave each of us a USB containing images, a keyring and a pen - very hospitable.
We stayed at Nottingham - yes, Robin Hood country. Nottingham Castle was unfortunately closed but we still got photos of the Robin Hood and his merry men statues.
Sorry - not sure how to rotate photos on this blog - so please turn your head!
Nottingham also boasts of having the oldest pub in England - Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem. Its quaint and rickety - we ate tea there before crashing for the night.
It's other claims to fame - Ibuprofen (Nurofen) was first discovered and manufactured here! and Torville & Dean the Olympic skaters are from here and used to practise at the local rink.
